  • My work laptop froze during a client call, so I said 'sounds like we're experiencing some real synergy here' to buy time while it rebooted. Nobody questioned it. I've since used 'synergy' to explain every technical failure in my life, including my car.
  • Our office installed a 'quiet room' for focused work. Within a week it became the unofficial nap room, complete with a rotating schedule nobody wrote down but everyone somehow respects.
  • I volunteered to run the office trivia night, thinking it'd be a fun way to bond with the team. Three rounds in, two coworkers weren't speaking to each other over a sports question. I've since retired from event planning.
  • I offered to organize the office supply closet as a favor. What I found back there included three staplers nobody claimed, a bag of rubber bands from a decade ago, and my own missing hole punch from two years back.
  • I brought homemade cookies to the office potluck, genuinely proud of them. A coworker asked what brand I bought them from. I said I'd made them myself. She apologized, then asked again which brand, more slowly.
  • Our team's quarterly offsite was supposed to be about strategic planning. We spent most of it debating what to order for lunch, and somehow that discussion was more productive than the actual meeting.
