  • I tried to teach my daughter how to ride her bike without training wheels using a technique I read online. She figured it out in ten minutes, faster than I ever did, and immediately asked why it took me so long as a kid.
  • I decided to learn woodworking as a new hobby, buying a modest set of tools to start. My first project, a simple shelf, took three weekends and came out slightly crooked, but I've never been prouder of anything.
  • My son wanted to enter the school talent show doing magic tricks he'd taught himself from videos. Half the tricks failed on stage, but the audience laughed along with him instead of at him, and he got a standing ovation anyway.
  • I offered to fix my own washing machine after watching a repair video, confident I'd save on the service call. Two hours in, I had it fully disassembled and no idea how to put it back together correctly.
  • My daughter wanted to plan an entire tea party for her stuffed animals, complete with a guest list and a proper seating chart. I was assigned a seat between a bear and a very serious-looking rabbit, and I took the role seriously.
  • My son asked to help me wash the car for the first time, promising to be careful with the hose. He was, in fact, extremely careful with the car and considerably less careful with me and most of the driveway.
