- We took the kids apple picking for the first time this fall, expecting a relaxing afternoon outdoors. We came home with two full bags of apples and one exhausted toddler asleep before we even reached the car.
- We tried to have a quiet, relaxing Labor Day weekend at home with no plans at all. By Saturday afternoon we'd somehow organized an impromptu barbecue with three neighboring families and abandoned the quiet part entirely.
- We decided to try camping in the backyard instead of a real trip, setting up the tent and everything properly. The kids loved it right up until it started raining, and everyone ended up back inside by midnight.
- We tried decorating gingerbread houses as a family activity this year, buying an elaborate kit with extra candy. The structures collapsed within an hour, but the candy consumption rate remained impressively high throughout.
- I decided to plant a fall garden this year, researching which vegetables would actually survive the cooler weather. Everything I planted thrived beautifully, except for the one plant I was most excited about, which never sprouted at all.
- We hosted Easter dinner for the whole extended family this year, coordinating a menu for fifteen people. The ham came out perfectly, but we ran out of chairs and ended up with three people eating standing at the counter.
