More Seasonal Stories
- I tried making homemade ice cream for the Fourth of July, following a recipe that promised it was foolproof. It came out somewhere between soup and disappointment, but we ate it anyway and called it a slushy.
- We planned an elaborate scavenger hunt for the kids' Easter baskets this year, with clues hidden all around the yard. By the third clue, I'd forgotten where I'd hidden the fourth, and the hunt paused for a solid ten minutes.
- We decided to host a big New Year's Eve party this year, inviting the whole neighborhood. Half the guests left by 11pm, and the four of us who stayed watched the countdown together in comfortable, quiet company.
- I decided to teach the kids how to fish this summer, despite having little experience myself. Three hours in, my daughter caught the only fish of the day, and hasn't let me forget it since.
- I offered to host Labor Day this year since everyone else had hosted a holiday recently. By the time I finished shopping, I'd bought enough food for double our actual guest list, out of pure anxiety.
- We decorated the house for Halloween earlier than usual this year, going all out with fog machines and fake spiders. A neighbor asked if we were running a haunted house business now, and I've decided to take that as a compliment.
